A young teenager awakes from an afternoon nap to find himself lost in a dream world where a number and an alphabet float about like constant reminders of something for which he has no clue what it’s about. It follows him to a Paris café, then to the forest of a Native American tribe, then to a street in Oklahoma City, and then back in the days when the pyramids were built. Sounds weird? It is. A story developed from improvisational acting exercises of teenage acting students associated with the Curriculum Research & Development Group Summer Programs of the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Curriculum Research & Development Group Summer Programs in 2022, “8Y” is a wacky comedy that comes to some type of resolution only on the final line.
